Dungeons and Prompts

Dungeon Quests

What these prompts and quests aim to accomplish is to allow you, the player, to further explore the world of Anomalous.  Not only that but, by completing these prompts or embarking on a quest, your character can collect juicy items/rewards and encounter various challenges that they must try to overcome.  Some prompts or dungeons may lead to encounters with nefarious creatures or even a god/goddess and, with various outcomes depending on what choices your character makes, they may challenge the same dungeon more than once and not follow the same path!  In addition to catching some super cool items to help your character in their travels, since all prompts/quests require RPs you will also earn some Skill Points for your character!

Note that all Dungeon RPs should be submitted to the appropriately named gallery folder!

While prompts are rather simple to complete, dungeons are a completely different beast.  These dungeons often have many moving parts, meaning that your character may challenge the same dungeon multiple times and never experience the same outcome.  Unlike prompts, which can be completed with a single RP response to the prompt, dungeons present various challenges that your character must overcome.  In fact, some dungeons may have areas that have specific requirements in order to be explored!  For example, your 18 hands tall Austerian may not be able to sneak through a particular crack in a wall but their 8 hands tall Nombeko compatriot can.  Thus, dungeons are a prime platform for being challenged with small groups of characters, encouraging your character to make friends (or enemies) in their travels!

Unlike prompts, dungeons can put your character into harm's way.  Before every dungeon, you will be reminded of this!  In a phase that may have consequences if your character fails, you will be given a warning beforehand.  Punishments for failure may be things such as physical injury, loss of Quest Items or temporary skill caps.  Unless you wish, your character will not be killed.  You can go through an entire dungeon on a 'safe' path.  However, you may miss out on dazzling exclusive items or a chance to meet a mini-boss by playing it safe!  No promises but there may also be some exclusive dungeons that can only be unlocked by successfully completing specific areas of a particular dungeon... -zips lips-

How to start your adventure!

In order to embark on a dungeon, you must write a minimum of a 350 word literature RP per character, or, draw a headshot with detailed BG image of your character setting off for the dungeon!  Be sure to check out any special requirements for the quest, such as location or season, before you submit your RP.  Furthermore, some paths within the dungeons themselves have specific requirements in order to pass through.  These may be restrictions such as specific magic types, skill levels, builds/height, etc.  Therefore, group efforts on dungeons are allowed - and encouraged!  Quests must be completed in the current season/year.  Sorry, no backdated RPs allowed!

In order to submit your character's dungeon quest request (hurrhurr say that five times fast), please submit the RP to the Quest Form below and note in a Dungeon Start Request to the group so we know to check the form!  Once it has been picked up by a staff member, you will receive a note with a link to the Google Doc quest sheet, where we will be able to keep track of your character's responses.

Dungeon Note Form:

Please put 'Dungeon Start' in the note title.

Ending and Submitting Your Adventure

Once you have come to an End Quest segment, you may compile your responses into one large piece, expand upon each 'checkpoint' response into a number of smaller responses, or whatever else suits your fancy!  Please note that dungeon checkpoint text is not allowed to be included in your posted piece, so as not to spoil the dungeon for anyone who hasn't yet played it! However, the items you found within the dungeon will not be valid until an End Quest RP has been submitted.  At minimum, this should be a written RP with your compiled checkpoint responses or at least one full-body/background image of your character at some point within their Dungeon Adventure!

Once your character has embarked upon a dungeon quest, a staff member will create a Google Doc for you to keep track of your checkpoint responses.  Each response requires, at minimum, a 100 word literature piece or a sketchy partial body with a BG depicting the character's response choice in the body of the artist's comments.

All dungeons end pieces MUST be submitted to the Dungeon Quest form.  Select the Dungeon End option.  Only one user needs to submit the dungeon end piece to the form in order for items earned by all characters who participated in the dungeon to be confirmed.

Don't forget to include your normal stat earnings as well as a +1 Experience for completing any Dungeon Quest!

Dungeon Prompt | The Dragon Trials

In the Spring of Year 2002, the first year of the Dragon Era, three Formaris dragons - one Air, one Earth, and one Water - were released into the world!  Although these creatures have been freed of their divine shackles and now peacefully float around Anomalous, those who wish to prove themselves may do so by completing the Dragon Trials!  By visiting one of the makeshift shrines erected in the honor of Actaeos or Astraek and making an appropriately themed offered (for example, a bowl of water to embark on the Water Formaris quest), your character will be transported into the dungeon.  Come ready for, although the fate no longer rests on your shoulders, these dungeons will test your intelligence, stamina, and strength and will most certainly push you to your limits.
Special Notes: Be sure to specify what trial (Air, Earth, or Water) your character(s) are wishing to embark upon!
Special Requirements: Must occur at one of the newly crafted shrines to Actaeos/Astraek in any season in/after Spring, Year 2002!

Shrine Locations

For Astraek:

  • Linx Foothills, Nombeko Territory (see Prove It)

For Actaeos:

  • Please note!  Because of the location of this shrine, anyone visiting it will need to be escorted/guided by an Alsaraphem!  Non-Saraphs (or, at least, those who cannot reasonably pass as a Saraph) are forbidden from entering the Mirror Pools!

  • Also note! The background depicted for this shrine is not accurate with the actual interior of the Mirror Pools - which is located deep within Fire Bird Gorge (which is a canyon). If you're going to draw this shrine, please keep that in mind!

Free-Roaming Dungeon - The River Cognar
The widest, deepest, and most fearsome river in all of Anomalous, the River Cognar winds its way from the very north of the continent to the southeast, where it empties into the Eastern Seas!  There is no shortage of stories of items found by those who have walked along its shores.  From simple items like sticks to precious gemstones washed down from the mountains, you never know what you can find!  You’ve decided that you want to see if you can get yourself a piece of the pie, whatever corner of the world you’re from!  Your bag is packed and off you go.

Free-Roaming Dungeon - Spelunking
A new set of caves were uncovered in the process of digging the tunnel to the Sonder Vale but, on closer inspection, they appear to be much bigger and more mysterious than initially believed!  How old are the caverns?  What secrets lie within?  Is there any good shit in there?  So many questions have been raised that, with the permission of the Alpha, you (and maybe some close friends/companions) have been granted permission to spelunk in one of these caves to see what you can find!

Austerian Dungeon – Kitchen Rumble
Ah, the sun. A marvellous ball of golden fire, how you do love to bask in its gentle rays. If you ask me, it's the perfect time for a picnic! Or, y'know, just a stroll along the forest. Munch some leaves, or grass, or bugs... you do you. Nothing will happen, nothing at all. You're just out for a walk.
This dungeon is foal friendly! Participants must be on good terms with the Austrian Kingdom, and dungeon starts must take place in Carlin Forest, Austrian Territory.

Hihiri Dungeon - Surf n' Turf
Palm trees swaying gently upon salty sea breezes; crystal clear waves crashing against the shoreline in a calming, constant roar; the sharp cries of gulls as they lazily ride the warm island thermals…  With such an idyllic place to live, it’s hard to imagine why anyone would ever want to leave! Still, rumors have been flying that a mythical creature - a creation of the gods - has been spotted. No one is quite sure which of the rumors are true.  The sources, admittedly, haven’t been all that reliable (most of the sightings were either from batty elders or exaggerating children) so the signals are mixed. One speaks of a creature that swims so swiftly through the seas, it could rival even Seysh!  Another speaks of a winged beast that takes to the skies and laughs in the face of the wind if tries to catch it. Still others speak of a creature whose very whisper can cause the earth to grumble. You can’t go after them all so, the real question is: Which one will you try to find first?

  • Path A: A creature that can swim faster than Seysh?  Yea right! You’ll have to see it to believe it [Note, this option will change your character’s location to Kahukura Island, if you’re not already there]!

  • Path B: Laughing in the face of the wind?  Feathery beasty? This you’ve gotta see [Note, this option will change your character’s location to Hihiri Island, if you’re not already there]!  Note, this Path is not yet available!

  • Path C: Woah, woah, woah, a mere whisper can make the earth tremble?  Pfsh. PFSH [Note, this option will change your character’s location to Tangaroa Island, if you’re not already there]. Note, this path is not yet available!

Linx Dungeon - Morty Moose
Up at the peak of the tallest mountain in the Linx Mountain Range, rumors state that one can find the biggest, most bestest moose in Anomalous!  His name is Morty, and he’s a lean, mean… well, he’s not really a fighting machine but he’s awful cool to look at.  Standing at fifteen feet at the shoulder, he’s a verifiable giant and white as snow all over!  Whether you (and your party, if you have one) are here just to see if the rumors are true or if you’re looking to win a bet, the challenge of finding Morty Moose is not for the faint of heart!  But, if you can find Morty’s hideaway and bring some proof of his existence back home, you’ll surely be in for a treat!

Nombeko Dungeon - The Ancient Warren
Danger - perhaps a terrible storm, circling eagles, or, roving renegades - sends you and any companions you might have bolting underground through an unfamiliar tunnel. The passage is partially filled with soft soil that gives way under your weight.  You fall some ways into a lower tunnel but, luckily, there are no injuries.  More soft soil rains down on you.  There’s no going back the way you came, it seems!  This passage has been abandoned for some time, judging by the disrepair and lack of scents... You can feel clean air breezing past your face, though, so it must lead somewhere!

Saraph Dungeon - Dust in Your Eye
A keen eyed anomali spotted strange stone figures peeking up from under the sand not too far from the Sky Dune along the coast of the Southern Sea. Could this be the trappings of another long buried shrine to Roth? Relatively safe for a patch of the fearsome desert, you’ve decided to investigate the unusual constructs for yourself.

Scybilline Dungeon - A Moth Huntin' We Will Go!
The rations are starting to run low; you know what that means?  Time for a hunting party!  Sent out by some of the higher ranking Scybillines, you (and your companions, should you choose to bring some) are tasked with bringing home the bacon (‘bacon’, being ‘bugs’, of course - real Scybs don’t eat bacon).  Ideally, you are expected to bring home as much as you possibly can but it all depends on how successful your day goes!
