Let There be Dragons!

Long, long ago full-sized dragons were released into the world.  While magnificent they were quite fearsome, often devouring inhabitants of Anomalous if they had the chance.  While the gods were able to put the kibosh on their massive and destructive ancestors back in the day, they decided to bring them back in a more manageable size as a boon for anyone lucky enough to snag an egg for themselves.  Meant to be peaceful vegetarians, Gaophos, of course, decided to stir the pot by putting his paws where they weren't wanted by making them meat-eating creatures!

Let There be Dragons!
What are dragons in Anomalous?

Dragons are carnivorous, German-shepherd sized pets that grow over time and can serve as both a personal companion or a battle buddy for your character and landing in Anomalous in the Summer of Year 1992!  Once tamed, they are capable of eating a highly varied diet of insects, fish, eggs, or small reptiles/birds/rodents and will usually hunt for themselves unless food is provided to them by their owner; they can and do seem to enjoy sweet fruits but most will refuse them with the exception of the Laurel dragon, who readily eats any kind of plant-matter.  Dragon designs cannot be altered although slight variations of their coloring will be allowed (ie, if you have a Water dragon, it can be navy blue versus light blue).

Dragons do not seem to reproductive organs so are technically genderless beings that cannot be bred; however, many of them have distinct male/female personalities!  Dragons of all kinds can live up to 75 IG years (holy moly!) so will most likely outlive their masters.  However, they can be passed down/transferred to other characters should their former master pass away.  New owners must, however, complete a new set of Training Milestones in order to earn the dragon's respect!  Note that dragons cannot speak and will rather communicate with their owners via growls, chirps, coos, snarls, and sometimes a noise that is similar to a cat's purr.  The exception to this rule is a Psychic Lektor dragon, who can use Telepathy to speak with their masters or other Anomalites!

These dragons don't require a separate reference since they are essentially an 'item' for your character but it is recommended to include them in your character's reference if they are lucky enough to catch one for themselves.  Dragons of any kind are a Legendary reward, only available either by Salamander Reward purchase or a token received in a raffle event.

In addition, dragons that have been tamed can actually help boost the amount of skill points your character gains when training/practicing a specific skill with them.  For example, if your Nombeko decided to practice some Earth magic with its Earth dragon companion, it would get an extra +1 Magic Skill Point!

How to Train Your Dragon!

In order to be eligible for battle bonuses, your character must first train their dragon!  This also ensures that the dragon is 'tame' enough to be kept around other inhabitants of Anomalous (otherwise, their carnivorous natures might turn against their masters or others!).  All dragons, regardless of type, must go through the training milestones!

01/

First Taming Milestone - First Meeting

In this milestone, you must depict how your character found its dragon!  Was your dragon still in its egg, was it a hatchling, or did your character watch it crack open its egg?  How did your character feel about this strange creature/egg?  This may either be an art RP or a literature RP of at least 500 words!

02/

Second Taming Milestone - Obedience Training

The second milestone of the taming process is perhaps the most important one of all!  Without obedience training, your dragon is suspect to go rampant and either eat your or your best friend!  For this milestone, you must depict your character teaching its dragon some manners.  Whether this is some simple such as sit-stay training, teaching them not to nom your character's feets, or teaching the dragon that equines are friends not food!  This may either be an art RP or a literature RP of at least 500 words.  Feel free to have the end result of the training either be successful or not.  They are intelligent creatures and might not get it right/listen on the first try.

03/

Final Taming Milestone - Bonding Time

Regardless of how much training your character gives its dragon, the most important taming milestone is the bond that the character shares with its dragon.  Fiercely loyal, these dragons require a lot of love and care but once their loyalty it won they are an invaluable companion.  Show your character and its dragon spending some quality time in whatever way you'd like, whether it be a walk on the beach, watching a sunrise/sunset, or sharing a tasty meal of insects/otherwise!  This may either be an art RP or a literature RP of at least 500 words.

Training Dragns
How can dragons help my character in a hostile fight?

As battle companions for your Anomalous character, these little divine beings can help your character perform better in a fight!  In events where characters are evenly match, the presence of a dragon in a fight might very well give your character the edge it needs to come out as the victor.

Formerly, dragons followed a tally point system to gain levels.  However, as of June 2nd, 2017, we will no longer be using this system as it is time consuming and frankly we, the staff, don't want to keep track of it!

In order to be used for battle, dragons must have their Training Milestones completed.  This also applies to training bonuses that can be earned by your character when training with the dragon.  Until these Training Milestones have been completed, the dragon is simply an unruly, meat-eating pet and will not earn your character bonus points.

Once the training milestones are complete, dragon fight bonuses will be decided by the age of your character.  Characters below 10 years of age will be able to have up to a +5 point bonus to their battle stat; characters above 10 years of age will be able to have up to the +10 point bonus to their battle stat.

How many dragons can a character have?

  • Anomalous characters are limited to ONE (1) Celestial dragon each.

  • Anomalous characters are NOT limited on how many Magic, Agility, Strength, Stamina or Herb dragons they each have. So long as you have completed the Training Milestones for each dragon individually, you are good to go!

  • When it comes to battle, only one dragon can be used as bonus to the skill with which they align (ie, if you have a Magic dragon and an Agility dragon, you can only pick one to bring to the fight stat wise, even if you use them both in a battle RP).  Choose wisely!

Dragon Battle Point Bonus
  • Characters below 10 years of age: RNG of up to +5 skill points.

  • Characters 10+ years of age: RNG of up to +10 skill points.

  • If magic dragon type matches character's magic type: An additional RNG of up +5 skill points.

I got a dragon!  How do I apply it to my character!
  • Simply note the group that you'd like to redeem your token/reward to apply the dragon to your character!  You will also need to add in the following form on to the character's reference sheet; simply find what type of dragon you have and copy-paste the form somewhere on your character's reference profile.

RPing with your dragon!

It should be mentioned that dragons should never be RPed solely by themselves!  RPs involving a dragon must always involve their master in some way, shape, or form (ie,your character must be the main protagonist of the piece and your dragon is a side character).  Skill points will be earned as normal for your character if this is the case.  However, if you post an art piece that only contains the dragon (say, the dragon hatching out of an egg for the 'First Meeting' milestone) you can only earn a +1 Skill Point for your character, regardless of whether or not it is a full art piece with a detail background.
